Saudi Red Crescent Authority Names the Electric EMS Chair “Rufaidah” at the Two Holy Mosques

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority has named the electric EMS chair operating at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque “Rufaidah,” inspired by the life of the female Companion Rufaidah bint Saad Al-Aslamiyyah—may Allah be pleased with her—who was known for her role in organizing medical care for the injured in the early days of Islam.
The electric chair is a compact mobile emergency unit designed to operate in high-density environments. Its small size and ease of maneuvering through crowds enable emergency teams to quickly reach cases via narrow routes that are difficult to access with conventional vehicles.
“Rufaidah” helps reduce response times during peak periods, accelerate field transport, and lessen the physical effort required of paramedics, thereby enhancing performance quality and improving the efficiency of emergency services provided to pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque.
The Authority affirmed that the unit is operated by qualified field personnel who have undergone specialized training programs in accordance with approved medical protocols, ensuring safe and effective use in various emergency situations.
