President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Dr Jalal bin Mohammed Al-Owaisi, is participating in the 12th Middle East and North Africa Conference of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), hosted in Beirut, Lebanon, from 25 to 26 September 2026. The conference is organised by the Lebanese Red Cross in coordination with the IFRC.
Dr Al-Owaisi chairs the “From Amman to Beirut” session, dedicated to following up on the outcomes of the 2024 Amman Declaration, reviewing progress made over the past two years, examining national responses to regional crises and the resulting humanitarian needs, and discussing priorities related to the Beirut Declaration.
Dr Al-Owaisi emphasized the importance of strengthening integration among National Societies and exchanging expertise and capabilities. He highlighted the importance of “moving from a region that shares crises to one that shares capabilities, and cooperating before crises, not only during them.”
He noted that the Saudi Red Crescent Authority’s approach focuses on strengthening preparedness ahead of crises and harnessing technology to empower volunteers and accelerate access to people in need, while promoting sustainability to ensure the continuity of its humanitarian mission.
The conference, held every two years to discuss the priorities of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in the region, brings together high-level participants under the patronage of the President of the Lebanese Republic. Attendees include the President of the IFRC, presidents of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies from across the Middle East and North Africa, as well as senior representatives of National Societies from outside the region.
SRCA’s participation reflects its commitment to strengthening its engagement and cooperation with components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and to exchanging experiences and expertise in ways that enhance the preparedness and humanitarian response capacities of National Societies.
