The Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Medina Region launched its operational plan for the Umrah season during the blessed month of Ramadan 1447 AH, as part of its efforts to enhance emergency ambulance services for visitors to and pilgrims in Medina, particularly at the Prophet’s Mosque.
The Director General of the Authority’s branch in Medina, Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, explained that the plan aims to increase the readiness of ambulance teams and ensure rapid response to emergencies at the Prophet’s Mosque and on roads leading to Medina. Its implementation period extends from 25 Sha’ban to 6 Shawwal.
He noted that the plan includes operating 10 sectors, with up to 97 ambulance units, including 70 ambulances and 12 rapid-response teams using motorcycles, bicycles, and electric bikes, in addition to 15 golf carts and specialized response vehicles for disasters and mass-casualty incidents, equipped with the latest medical equipment and technologies, along with full readiness for air ambulance services. More than 472 employees from various specialties are participating in implementing the plan, in partnership with the private sector and the third sector.
He pointed out that ambulance services at the Prophet’s Mosque will be intensified during the Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers, with efforts doubled on the 27th night of Ramadan and the night of the Khatmah. Coverage will also be provided for Eid prayer and visits to the Rawdah, with operational capacity reinforced by the participation of 1,500 male and female volunteers working around the clock in the courtyards and sections of the Prophet’s Mosque and major mosques in Medina, after completing specialized training courses.
