Today, President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority Dr. Jalal Al-Owaisi received the Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom, Amir Ajwad Omar Lebbe, at the Authority’s headquarters in Riyadh.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments and severe weather disasters that struck Sri Lanka, resulting in widespread floods and landslides that caused significant losses affecting more than two million people, in addition to extensive damage to infrastructure and property across the country.
The meeting also addressed prospects for strengthening cooperation in emergency response, ambulance services, disaster management, and the exchange of technical expertise, contributing to enhanced preparedness and more effective responses to future challenges.
For his part, the ambassador praised the distinguished role of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority during the Hajj season, noting that the Sri Lankan community benefits from the ambulance services provided, given that approximately 200,000 Sri Lankan workers are employed in the Kingdom.
The Authority affirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the humanitarian field, based on its national role in building bridges of support and assistance and contributing to efforts that save lives and alleviate suffering, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and reflecting the Kingdom’s leading position in humanitarian action.
