The Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah Region handled (23,709) emergency calls during the first half of the holy month of Ramadan, as part of its operational plan to serve visitors to the Grand Mosque and Umrah performers. The number of cases transported to health-care facilities to complete medical care reached (8,798).
The specialized medical pathways recorded (41) cases under the cardiac catheterization pathway and (49) cases under the stroke pathway. They were handled according to approved medical protocols to ensure rapid intervention and transport to specialized centers, while air ambulance services handled (28) emergency calls, transporting (15) of these cases by air ambulance to complete advanced medical care at health-care facilities.
Emergency care units inside the Grand Mosque also helped improve rapid response to emergency cases through advanced stations equipped with resuscitation devices and vital-sign monitoring in high-density areas such as the tawaf area, the arcade, and the courtyards.
The Rafidah electric medical wheelchair enhanced the speed of reaching cases in high-traffic areas inside the Grand Mosque, thanks to its ease of maneuvering through crowds and its securing system, which ensures patient safety during transport.
The tenth day of Ramadan recorded the highest number of reports, totaling (1,860), while the peak operational pressure hours occurred between 4:00 p.m. and midnight.
The Director General of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah Region, Hassan bin Hussein Nafea, affirmed that these indicators reflect the scale of the field effort exerted to serve visitors to the Grand Mosque, as well as the existing integration with healthcare system partners and relevant authorities, thereby enhancing response speed and the quality of emergency medical services.
