His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Hussam bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Al-Baha Region, launched today at the Emirate headquarters the “Public Access Defibrillators Project”, implemented by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) branch in the region. This came during his reception of the Director General of the branch, Sultan Al-Maliki, along with a number of SRCA staff.
His Royal Highness praised such initiatives that contribute to enhancing emergency response efficiency, commending the branch’s efforts in developing its capabilities and implementing impactful projects.
During the meeting, a detailed briefing was presented on the project, which is considered one of the leading initiatives at the national level. As a first phase, the region has installed five Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across several vital locations, aiming to improve response efficiency in cases of cardiac and respiratory arrest.
The “First Eight Minutes” initiative was also showcased— a national program designed to enhance community readiness during the critical first eight minutes before ambulance arrival. It focuses on empowering individuals and building an integrated community-based emergency response system led by SRCA, through training the public in essential first aid skills.
The project aims to strengthen early response to cardiac emergencies and raise public awareness of emergency care. It also includes equipping individuals with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, enabling prompt intervention prior to the arrival of emergency teams—especially given that the first minutes are crucial in saving lives.
This initiative reflects the integration of efforts to promote first aid awareness and reinforce the importance of early intervention, ultimately enhancing community safety and increasing survival chances in critical cases.
